Surroundings

Den Bosch

's-Hertogenbosch is the official name of the city. In everyday language, used mostly Den Bosch. That means "the forest of the Duke." In 1185 the Duke granted town privileges and associated trading privileges. The oldest place in the heart of 's-Hertogenbosch is the triangular market. Within the city walls has s-Hertogenbosch largely retained its medieval structure. Bossche Broek

The Bossche Broek is a swamp area of 202 ha southeast of 's-Hertogenbosch. It is one of the few bits of nature near the centre of the city.
In the 40s of the twentieth century, the municipality plans to build on the area. After World War II there was a plan to the Municipal Theatre, the current Theater aan de Parade, to build here. In 1954 the city council of the city, partly at the urging of the municipality of Vught, decided to leave the area as it was.
The area is' back to nature 'in the future with the intention that it is a swamp again, as it was during the Siege of' s-Hertogenbosch in 1629.

Moerputten

The Moerputten is a nature reserve in the Dutch province of North Brabant, near 's-Hertogenbosch. The 118-hectare site is part of the Natura 2000 areas and is managed by the Forestry Commission. It is one of the few remaining peat bogs south of the great rivers. The park is enclosed by the polders Gement, Honderdmorgen and Rijskampen (Vught), the Bossche Kruiskamp and Deuteren and Vlijmen.

Heusden

The fortified city of Heusden has completely restored fortifications and 134 buildings on the Monument. The town has grown up around one of the oldest water castles in Northwest Europe and was one of the first Dutch cities was surrounded by a wall.

Camp Vught

Camp Vught was one of three German concentration camps in the Netherlands during World War II. Camp Vught was in Vught near the recreational lake Iron Man. The last authentic, restored barracks of former camp Vught is open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00.
